MYSTERIOUS MURDER
One Arm Red, May 2012
Set in a strange hidden space at the very top of 10 Jay Street, overlooking the East River and Farragut Substation, Piehole’s MYSTERIOUS MURDER is a short site-specific meditation on disappeared persons, unhelpful evidence, dedicated public servants and the fickle public imagination. Drawing from the grisly “mysterious murder” that gripped Brooklyn in the mid-1800s (initiated by a series of gory discoveries in the East River), and featuring reassembled text pulled directly from the archives of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, MYSTERIOUS MURDER uses surprise, suspense and humor to look at the psychic habits that allow us to grow accustomed to blood, death, and horror as history moves on.
This piece was presented May 18-20 at ONE ARM RED, 9th floor, 10 Jay Street, DUMBO, Brooklyn, as an opening piece to precede 3 Sticks' full-length original music-theater piece, Paper Plane, with original music by Andrew Lynch.
